OSI Completes INTS CDR for Portuguese Navy MPV
CDR completed within 8 Months from Signing of Contract
- OSI Maritime contracted by Damen Shipyards to deliver complete Integrated Navigation and Tactical System Bridge for the Portuguese Navy
- Fully compliant IMO MSC.252(83) Integrated Navigation System solution ready to enable paperless navigation.
- The Damen-OSI relationship and OSI’s strategic delivery system supported rapid CDR delivery
December 18, 2024 – Burnaby – OSI Maritime Systems, in collaboration with Damen Shipyards, is proud to announce the successful completion of the Critical Design Review (CDR) for the Integrated Navigation and Tactical System (INTS) bridge, designed for the Portuguese Navy’s cutting-edge Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV).
The INTS contract was awarded to OSI by Damen Shipyards in April 2024 and the CDR milestone was achieved in an impressive timeframe of just 8 months—significantly faster than the industry standards. This accelerated achievement reflects OSI’s strong partnership with Damen, the efficiency of OSI’s strategic delivery framework and the collaborative synergy developed through previous Damen-OSI projects.
The MPV to be built by Damen in their Galati Shipyard in Romania, is an innovative 107m platform designed to support Oceanic Research, Search and Rescue, Emergency Relief, and naval operations as a UxV (unmanned system) Mother Ship. Equipped with laboratories, scientific accommodation, unmanned drones and helicopters, it features a stern ramp for UUVs and USVs, a 94 x 11-metre flight deck for UAVs and modular systems to meet its varied and demanding roles. The vessel, classified as Plataforma Naval Multifunctional (PNM), or multifunctional naval platform, will be christened the Don João II.
The INTS or Warship IBS will be powered by OSI’s ECPINS 7 software, developed to be fully compliant to the latest NATO STANAG 4564 Edition 3 standard and built to fully meet the IMO MSC.252(83) Integrated Navigation System standard, a key requirement for the Navy. Able to deliver against that Navy’s drive towards paperless navigation, OSI’s ECPINS software is more than just a fully compliant WECDIS and amongst the additional capabilities contracted are the provision of the GNSS Denied capability and the Ship Helicopter Operating Limits (SHOL) modules.
The Portuguese Navy is one of OSI’s oldest Customers and the long-standing relationship has brought about fleetwide deployment of ECPINS. With ECPINS as the Navy’s standard WECDIS now coupled with OSI’s INTS and additional capability modules, presents an ideal environment to support the varied scientific experiments and investigations as well as delivering a robust military testing environment for developing UxV capabilities.
The project follows a comprehensive European tender process and is part funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), part of NextGenerationEU, the economic recovery package to support EU member states affected by the COVID-19 pandemic).
